Prayer Initiatives

It has been almost 500 years since the name of Jesus was first proclaimed in Japan, and yet today, less than one percent of the population believes in the gospel. The prayer initiatives team longs to see a significant spiritual breakthrough in Japan. We believe that our particular role is in mobilizing prayers of faith for strategic opportunities and challenges. We want to provide trustworthy information to help people pray specifically. We want God’s people around the world to help local believers with the heavy lifting of spiritual burdens through prayer. Read more to learn about our ministries, vision, and values.

Where are we?

This team is based in Ichikawa city, Chiba prefecture. Ichikawa is a small, quiet city adjacent to Tokyo, Japan’s capital and the largest metropolitan area in the world. With easy access to the heart of Tokyo, Ichikawa is a popular place for families and commuters to live.

Prayer gatherings
and journeys

Our team participates in regular prayer walking, and we invite short-term teams to participate in multi-day prayer journeys in Japan. We also participate in the bi-monthly JEMA (Japan Evangelical Missionary Association) online prayer gathering.

Team Vision

It has been almost 500 years since the name of Jesus was first proclaimed in Japan. But we have yet to see a significant, sustained breakthrough of the gospel here. Working in partnership with other ministries, the prayer initiative team exists to call and equip God’s people to pray for spiritual breakthrough in Japan.

And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

1 John 5:14-15

3

Prayer journeys

Our team participates in regular prayer walking, and we invite short-term teams to participate in multi-day prayer journeys in Japan. These are times to be present, to observe, listen, and ask the Lord how to pray.

4

Prayer partnerships

We work with other ministries so that we can practice collective wisdom and each bring our unique gifts to the table. We prefer to work on initiatives that serve the body of Christ at large.

Team Values

Practice of prayer

As we mobilize prayer for Japan, we are also active participants and seek to grow in our practice of prayer.

Long range vision

We focus on initiatives with long-range impact and vision rather than one-time events. Faith, patience, and tenacity are important characteristics.

Creative projects

We like to work with creatives and seek to think creatively about prayer resources and mobilization.

Excellence

We believe in executing creative vision well. Excellence starts with heart motives and valuing our ministry partners.
