Fukuoka boasts beautiful mountains and hiking trails in the south, and a vast ocean with beaches and islands in the north. Despite being a bustling urban city, it maintains a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Public transport is easy and affordable, and many local shops make it a convenient place to live. There is a high percentage of rainfall, with the occasional snowfall in winter. Temperatures average around 30-34°C in summer and 2-8°C in winter. Fukuoka is the largest city on the southernmost main island of Kyushu and is currently the fastest growing city in all of Japan. With a population of over 1.5 million, Fukuoka’s influence in Asia continues to grow, being home to many universities and attracting students from all over the world. With such an openness to foreigners, we started church planting in Fukuoka for its logistical and training advantages. Fukuoka has many language schools, has great public transportation, and provides many services for foreigners that other cities lack. Though Fukuoka is quite comfortable (the 7th most liveable city in the world), our hope is to launch teams from here into the remaining Kyushu prefectures, some of the least-reached areas of Japan.
